Star Base Assault

Objective

Description

It is an age of war. The two main factions have been engaged in battle for a decade or more. Over time, the battles have deteriorated from large scale incursions into light, tactical skirmishes. Specialized "Assault Teams", consisting of only a handful of troopers, battle for control of specific parts of the galaxy. The skirmishes are small, but plentiful. The campaign has shifted from planetary surface conflict to the orbiting starbases. One side will soon gain the upper hand. It is only a matter of time ...

Starbase Assault is a very tactical game in which specialized teams compete against each other in a unique struggle for survival. Teams consist of a Starbase Commander, a Storm Gunner, a Space Medic and a number of Star Troopers. Each of them have specifically defined roles. All of them depend on each other. The ultimate aim is to defeat and eliminate the rival Starbase Commander. To succeed, it is crucial that each member of the team performs their assigned role to perfection.

The team which successfully eliminates the opposing team's Starbase Commander is declared the winner.

Starting the Game

Parameters

This is a character based team game. Teams consist of a Starbase Commander, a Storm Gunner, a Space Medic and a number of Star Troopers. Teams decide which players will perform what roles.

The first press of the game start button will perform a special "pre-start". In pre-start mode, the pack displays will flash and show the character types on the screen. The players of each team take the pack matching their chosen character. When the players of each team are ready, the game start button is pressed for a second time to actually start the game.

After the game has started, each team must make their way to their respective home team base (starbase). Player's packs will activate when the team's Starbase Commander enters the starbase.

This is a character based team game. Teams consist of a Starbase Commander, a Storm Gunner, a Space Medic and a number of Star Troopers.

Starbase Commander:   The Starbase Commander has a laser rifle weapon.

If the Starbase Commander's power level is less than 100%, the starbase will automatically replenish it back up to 100%. This will only occur if the Starbase Commander is WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THE STARBASE. Power cannot be replenished at recharge bays or from the Space Medic.

The Space Medic's special recharge pack will "appear" to recharge the Starbase Commander, but this is not the case. The medic's recharge pack does not replenish the Starbase Commander's power level.

If the Starbase Commander's power drops to zero he is ELIMINATED and the game will be over.

Storm Gunner:   The Storm Gunner has a plasma cannon weapon.

The Storm Gunner's plasma cannon is the only weapon able to damage a starbase. The Storm Gunner's objective is therefore to destroy the opposing starbase.

The plasma cannon weapon is also a useful defensive weapon and the Storm Gunner can use it to defend himself or herself against attacks from the opposing team.

The Storm Gunner's plasma cannon is very powerful. The weapon will do heavy damage to any opposing team member. Be warned that if the opposing starbase has been destroyed, and is therefore not providing the benefits of replenishing its respective Starbase Commander and his team, the Storm Gunner's plasma cannon can very quickly cause major problems for that Starbase Commander.

The Storm Gunner relies on the starbase to keep their power level at maximum. Power cannot be replenished at recharge bays or from the Space Medic.

The Space Medic's special recharge pack will "appear" to recharge the Storm Gunner, but this is not the case. The medic's recharge pack does not replenish the Storm Gunner's power level.

Space Medic:   The Space Medic has a special recharge pack used to recharge the power levels of the Star Troopers if they get low. The Space Medic cannot recharge the Storm Gunner or the Starbase Commander.

The Space Medic cannot defend themself against attacks from the opposing team.

Like the Starbase Commander, the Space Medic relies on the starbase to keep their power level at maximum. However, the Space Medic DOES NOT have to remain within the confines of the starbase for this to occur. So long as the starbase is active, the Space Medic will continue to be replenished. Power cannot be replenished at recharge bays.

Star Trooper:   The Star Trooper has a rapid fire phasor weapon.

The Star Trooper is the grunt unit and is used in the defence and support role. Star Troopers are the perfect unit to provide perimeter defence of the starbase, support the Storm Gunner or protect the Starbase Commander and Space Medic.

The Star Trooper relies on the Space Medic to keep their power levels replenished. Power cannot be replenished at recharge bays.

Game Play

  • Defence of the home team base (starbase) is critical to the success of the overall mission. If the starbase is destroyed, the Starbase Commander becomes very vulnerable to attack and can easily be eliminated by the opposing team. If the Starbase Commander is eliminated, the team loses the battle.
  • The team's Starbase Commander should coordinate the campaign from within the starbase. The active starbase provides the necessary functions to keep the Starbase Commander's systems working at peak efficiency. If the Starbase Commander leaves the starbase, those systems will not be able to be replenished and the risk of the Starbase Commander being eliminated will therefore increase considerably. Remember, if the Starbase Commander is eliminated, the team loses the battle. The Starbase Commander should therefore stay within the confines of the starbase to remain safe.
  • To destroy an opposing starbase, three successful attacks against it must take place. The Storm Gunner's plasma cannon weapon is the only weapon capable of damaging (and eventually destroying) the opposing starbase. Only one shot needs to be fired into the starbase for a successful attack. The starbase will shut down after a successful attack. This allows the home team some time to regroup and defend the starbase from further attacks. If the starbase has not yet been destroyed, it will reactivate after a brief period of time.
  • In summary, the home team base (starbase) provides the necessary functions to keep the Starbase Commander's systems working at peak efficiency. Therefore, to remain safe, the Starbase Commander should not leave the confines of the starbase. However, if the opposing team manages to successfully attack the starbase three times, the starbase will be destroyed. When the starbase is destroyed, the Starbase Commander's systems cannot be replenished and he or she becomes vulnerable to elimination. If the Starbase Commander is eliminated, the team loses the battle.

Parameters

Star Troopers per Team:   This parameter sets the number of Star Troopers each team will have.

Base Shutdown Time:   Length of time (in seconds) that a base (starbase) remains shutdown (deactivated) after it has been damaged. During the shutdown time, the starbase target(s) will be disabled. To destroy a starbase, three successful attacks against it must take place. After the shutdown time has elapsed, if the starbase has not yet been destroyed, it will reactivate and begin operating again. (The default is 30 seconds.)
